Strengthening teaching practice in Adult and Community Education
Effective teaching makes a difference to adult learners, helping them build confidence, develop skills and achieve their learning goals.
The Effective Adult Teaching Practice Workshops provide professional learning opportunities for educators working in Adult and Community Education (ACE) across Aotearoa New Zealand.
Based on the ACE Teaching Standards, these workshops aim to connect the principles of effective adult teaching with the everyday experiences, opportunities and challenges faced by educators.
Through practical approaches, shared experiences and opportunities for reflection, the workshops will support educators to strengthen their teaching practice and respond to the diverse needs of adult learners.

About the workshops
The Effective Adult Teaching Practice Workshops are designed to bring the ACE Teaching Standards to life through practical, relevant professional learning.
The standards describe what effective teaching looks like in adult and community education and provide a shared foundation for quality teaching and learning.
Future workshops will explore different aspects of adult teaching practice, helping educators connect the standards with their own teaching experiences and identify practical strategies they can apply in their work.
The workshops will encourage participants to share ideas, reflect on their approaches and explore ways to create engaging, inclusive and supportive learning environments.
What you could explore
Future workshops may explore topics such as:
- Learner-centred teaching: Recognising learners' experiences, strengths and goals, and supporting learner choice and participation.
