Hui Fono continues to reveal treasures in many communities

Despite the run of unfortunate events that cancelled Hui Fono Nelson, its spirit was celebrated across many parts of the country as we took Hui Fono Regional Workshops back to the people. From Hastings to Blenheim to New Plymouth to Christchurch to South Auckland to Oamaru; our fantastic educators Dr Edmond Fehoko, Aiono Manu Fa’aea and Te Hau Winitana inspired communities as they affirmed the role of cultural practices in navigating communities and the world of life-long education.

Central King Country REAP: supporting employability

Taumarunui has a population of around 2500. The rohe that Central King Country serves has a population of about 5000. Last year the REAP put 98 people through their Safe2Go programme, and in partnership with the Mayors Task Force for Jobs, 66 people into work.

The Safe2Go programme, which was kick started in 2016 with funding from the MSD Social Sector Trials, is the REAP’s solution to two serious community problems: the number of recidivist driver licence offenders in the district and the barriers to employment faced by people without a valid driver licence.
