Te wiki o te reo Māori takes place this year from September 9-15.

Kia Kaha te reo Māori – let’s make Māori language strong - is the theme for the week.

There are a number of resources available on line.

Te Taura Whiri I Te Reo Māori/Māori Language Commission website has Tools for Language Planning – the resource includes a language plan template, self assessment, language plan development, language plan process chart, and review and reflresh.

The Ministry of Education website links to the Commission’s website with information for schools. They may be adapted for ACE.

They include:

  • Resources for learning te reo Māori - a big selection including posters and specialised language resources such as Māori phrases for use on the phone
  • A collection of waita
  • 2018/19 Te Kupu ot te Wiki – a 50 week programme teaching 50 Māori words over 50 weeks.
  • A collection of Māori myths and legends.

And if you need to brush up on pronunciation, you can listen to RNZ’s podcast which was broadcast at the start of the week.
