Lifelong Learning Acknowledged

Whanganui resident and lifelong learner Judith Robinson was recognised with a lifelong learning award presented by Community Education Whanganui (CEW) at a special event held during the Festival of Adult Learning Ahurei Ākonga in September 2023. Judith has lived in Whanganui since 2007 and during that time has continued with her lifelong learning journey, taking up watercolours, clay, needle-felting, and ukulele.

Happy Birthday! Celebrating 80 years of Learning at Risingholme

Everyone loves a birthday celebration and Risingholme Community Centre (Risingholme Learning) is celebrating its 80th with a suite of events across the year to mark the special occasion. Risingholme’s beautiful historic premises built in 1864, are located in Opawa, Ōtautahi. Following decades as a private residence to a number of prominent local families, in 1943 the homestead was purchased and gifted to the people of Christchurch by philanthropist J. R.

Golden Bay Youth Work

The Golden Bay Workcentre Trust (the Trust) was established in 1979 and has centres in Motueka and Golden Bay. The centres offer a range of services, including youth and adult education, community support, mentoring, employment programmes and information services for people in their communities.

Moving with the Flow

Crows Feet Dance Collective is the brainchild of Jan Bolwell who is the director and main choreographer of this unique dance company. Founded in 1999, Crows Feet has grown from a small group of four dancers in Wellington city to four groups with more than 40 dancers based in Wellington, the Kapiti Coast, Lower Hutt and Palmerston North.

Driving New Opportunities

During 2023, Marlborough REAP partnered with Red Cross in Blenheim, Pathways to Settlement and Pathways to Employment to work with refugees from Colombia who had settled in Blenheim and were seeking to gain their New Zealand Driver Licence.

Ninety-five refugees from Colombia settled in the Marlborough region that year, including 70 children.

The new immigrants wanting to learn to drive were referred by Red Cross in Blenheim to REAP Marlborough where Sharon Blount is Kaiwhakahaere/CEO.
