CLANZ Funding

CLANZ allocates small amounts of funding to community groups for community learning activities.

• This fund allocates small, one off grants to community groups for community based learning activities;
• The appropiation is $200,000pa;
• The allocation process is the CLANZ fund panel makes recommendations to TEC;
• Grants are usually  under $2000, although special projects may receive up to the ceiling of $5000

Funding is not available to groups that receive direct funding from the government. Only specific learning projects or programmes for adults are eligible for funding. Priority is given to:

• projects and programmes of groups which do not have easy access to other funding
• learning opportunities to make things fairer and strengthen peoples choices
• learning opportunities outside the control of schools, polytechnics, and universities
• projects where the learners have control of the learning, rather than those where others decide what people need to learn
• local or regional groups rather than national bodies.

Low priority is given to:

• training for individuals
• expensive equipment
• expensive resource materials
• groups receiving direct funding from government
• national gatherings and conferences.

There is no funding for:

• ongoing salaries and general administration costs
• vehicles and buildings
• companies or businesses
• establishment grants
• institutions such as schools and polytechnics, or other government funded institutions
• projects mainly for children and youth
• overseas travel or projects.

Funding will not be given retrospectively and groups may submit only one application in a 12-month period. From 2006 onwards there will be three funding rounds per year. Closing dates for applications are:

• 28 February
• 30 June
• 31 October
